The Gambia Armed Forces is privileged to host the 21st meeting of the Committee of ECOWAS Chiefs of Defence Staff scheduled to take place from 19 to 21 March in Banjul.
According to a press release from the Gambia Armed Forces Headquarters, the meeting will bring together the chiefs of defence staff of ECOWAS member states who will discuss pertinent security issues in the sub-region.
"The meeting," the release stated, "will also discuss current political issues of the sub-region and work out the way forward to strengthen cooperation, restoration and maintenance of peace in affected areas, as well as military integration."
Some strategic non-ECOWAS partner nations such as the United Kingdom, France and the USA would also be represented in the meeting as observers, the release added.
"In conformity with some ECOWAS protocols, the meeting aims at bringing the sub-regional militaries closer, which will contribute positively towards improving and guaranteeing security and stability in West Africa," it stated.
"In view of the forgone, and as a show of Gambian hospitality, the Gambia Armed Forces solicits the cooperation and assistance of the general public during this important event. The Gambia Armed Forces Public Relations Department will keep you updated on the event as and when necessary."
