The Association of Small Scale Enterprises in Tourism (ASSET) recently held its 6th annual general meeting (AGM) at Kololi Village Gallery at which they elected new executive members.
The newly elected executive members which includes Mr. Badou Bobb as chair, Mrs. Jainaba Gaye as vice chair, Mrs. Olivia Gillen as treasurer and Mr. Kabiro Manneh as secretary general are charged with the responsibility of managing the affairs of the association for the next year.
In his presentation of the association’s report for the past year, Mr. Adama Bah, outgoing chair of ASSET, outlined some of the achievements and challenges of the association for the past year.
Mr. Bah also urged members of the association to never compromise with quality standards, good customer care and services because, according to him, The Gambia as a tourist destination is very much in competition with other countries.
He also reminded Arts and Craft producers to always try to be more creative in their work as being more innovative would encourage tourists to buy more gifts and souvenirs.
The highlight of 2007 was the international trade fair on responsible tourism named ‘Mboka’ which was jointly organized in Dakar in October by ASSET and ONITS, a sister organization in Senegal.
ASSET also, as part of their years 2007 activities, set up a tourist information centre commonly known as Cultural Encounters. The centre gives information on tourism as well as showcasing the products and services of the association’s members.
