Boost for Kafuta Health Centre

Susanne Skov Petersen, a Danish philanthropist on Tuesday donated medical items to Kafuta Health Centre at a ceremony held at the Health Center premises in Kafuta.

The materials included wheel chairs, walking sticks, gloves, needles and other valuable items.

Speaking at the ceremony, Gibriel Kujabi, chairman of the Water Management Project underscored the valuable and tireless assistance the community of Kafuta received from Madam Petersen over the past years.

He cited her as a role model in the development of the village. “Petersen has also for the past years been very supportive to many development endeavours such as the Kafuta Day Care Centre. The Day Care previously benefited from toys and second hand clothing. The Kafuta Skill Centre also benefited from a number of chairs and now paying a salary basis for the staff” he said.

He then lauded the generosity and thanked MA Kharafi for their contribution towards the development of Kafuta.

For his part, Famara Jallow Colley, the Village Development Chairman commended the government of The Gambia for providing a magnificent Health Centre for the village.

He then highlighted the major constrains faced by the Health Center saying “ it lacks electricity, water and limited staff and even the ambulance attached to the Health Centre has been withdrawn”. He then appealed to the  authorities to look into the constrains faced by the Health Centre. He recalled a recent fatal accident in the area in which there was no ambulance to transport the patients to a Major Health Centre.

Basiru Jarju, the Chief of Kombo East District urged the beneficiaries to make best use of the materials adding that the development of his district is his major concern. He also emphasised the need to overcome the constrains faced by the Health Centre noting that Kafuta is surrounded by many villages who benefits medical treament from the health center.

Morio Jarju, regional secretary who deputised for Governor Abdou FM Badjie of Western Region, saluted Susanne Skor Petersen, for the gesture.

Abdou Aziz Ceesay, Regional Health Representative deputised for the Dr Malick Njie, secretary od state for Health and Social Welfare. Present at the ceremony where, Lamin Jobarteh, the Public Health Officer, Lamin Bojang, NAM for Kombo East, Lamin Jarju, NAM for  Kombo Central, Alhagie Kujabi Kafita, Ward Councillor, Omar Sowe, Pirang Ward Councillor, Aja Ndey Jatta, Western Region Women Mobiliser and other important personalities. Certificate of appreciation was awarded to the donor at the end of the ceremony.
