NAYCONF is slated for this year, 2008, and if remarks by the honorable SOS for youth and sport are anything to go by, this years edition will be the best ever organized.
Yesterday, between the hours of 10am and 2pm, Mass Axi Gye, the SoS responsible for youth and sports, presided over the inauguration of the national organizing committee, the committee that will be responsible for to put everything in place and ensure that a successful NAYCONF 2008, which is scheduled to take place in Farafenni, North Bank Region, is realized. Honorable Gye promised members at the gathering, held in the conference Hall of the Independent Stadium that he would take it personally to ensure that all what was needed to be done was in place.
Having been witnessing past activities of the occasion with keen interest, the honorable SoS intimated that he was not the least satisfied with the way things had been run, pointing out the significance the President of the Republic attached to matters of the youth of this country.
He said: "I have been around witnessing all past event and I would not hesitate to say that some people negated their responsibility. People must come together to ensure a better celebration this time round. My agenda is youth", emphasized.
He further went on to advice against complacency, noting that it might appear that there is enough time, but that December was right at the corner.
Effectiveness of members, team work as well as effective communication were issues highlighted by the SoS as very crucial for the successful implementation of such a national occasion. I am not promising you, he said, but I can say that I will use my office to make that everything is fine", he posited.
Echoing is boss’s sentiment, the Permanent Secretary, Department of State for Youth and sport, Mambanyick Njie, said that this year’s would be "a NAYCONF with a difference.
He also advised members of the committee to live up to expectation. Other speakers included high profile stakeholders ranging from the director of youth, to the chairman of the NOC of a NAYCONF, as well as the executive secretary of the NYC.
