GNOC top brass awarded at ANOC General Assembly

Alhaji Abou Dandeh-Njie and Alhaji Abdoulie M. Touray, President and Secretary General, respectively, of The Gambia National Olympic Committee (GNOC), were on Monday April 7, 2008, awarded the Association of National Olympic Committee (ANOC) Merit Award in Gold, at the 15th ANOC General Assembly held in Beijing, People’s Republic of China.

According to a press release from the Gambia National Olympic Committee, the award is in recognition of their meritorious service and contribution to the Olympic Movement.

"The Gambia is the only country ever in Africa to receive a double award for its President and Secretary General in the same year. This award is a reflection of the distinction, dedication and capacity Gambians demonstrate in the International field", the release added.

"The GNOC views these awards as awards to The Gambia and wish to congratulate all Gambians, especially President Jammeh, who is the Chief Patron of The Gambia National Olympic Committee", the release concluded.
