West and Central African Media Conference Ends

Tuesday, April 8, 2008
Pa Modou Faal, a senior reporter with The Point and AMMRE Gambia chapter coordinator, recently returned from an international conference for West and Central African countries. The meeting was held in Ivory Coast and organised by the REPMASY Network. The conference aimed to use the media to tackle HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis.

In all, 42 participants from 21 countries took part.

According to Mr. Faal, the seminar looked at how to create an African network of media against HIV/AIDS and saw the adoption of a number of recommendations at the end towards this goal.

Mr. Faal also lamented the fact that there is not a greater sensitisation taking place on these topics. He emphasised the need for good relationships to be built between established institutions to fight diseases such as malaria.

Mr. Faal finally revealed that at the end of the five-day conference another network of African Media Against AIDS, TB and Malaria (NAMS-TP) was established.
