Mr. Malcom Marks, a company finance director in the UK, has presented two laptops worth over D30,000 to Bakoteh Annex Lower Basic School in Region one.
The sizeable presentation ceremony took place at Kiloli Beach Club recently in the presence of National Assembly Member for Serrekunda West Sulayman Joof. Mr. Mark’s two Gambian friends Lamin Jarjue and Mrs. Haddy Jeng Manneh and the deputy Headmaster of the school, Mr. Momodou B.K. Bojang, were also in attendance.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Mr. Marks expressed his intention to continue helping the school in the future through the provision of educational materials.
According to him, the donation of the laptops came about as a result of his cordial personnel relationships with Hon. Joof and the Headmistress of the school Mrs. Hannah P. Coker.
Mr. Marks revealed that he will provide the school with a female teacher from the UK for a period of two weeks in the coming year. The teacher will teach English and Information Technology.
He also said that he will help the school by roofing their computer lab and also assist other schools in the Serrekunda West constituency.
In receiving the laptops the Headmistress Mrs. Coker thanked Mr. Marks for his timely help to the school. She said the donated laptops will greatly assist with effective learning at the school and she promised the items will be taken care of. “Both teachers and pupils appreciate your kind gesture,” Mrs. Coker told Mr. Marks.
