Asbunallahi Islamic Forum recently held its annual lecture programme at the Semega Janneh Hall in Tallinding. Hundreds of people from across the country attended the programme including senior government officials.

In his opening remarks, the Vice-Chairman of Asbunallahi Islamic Forum, Mr. Bro Musibau Raim, briefly outlined the historical background of the society. He said the idea of bringing Nigerian Muslims together for the purpose of supplication to Almighty Allah and his messenger the Prophet Muhammad (PBUP) was singularly conceived by a business woman called Iya Idayot in 1993. She was motivated and inspired by her experience of similar things back in Nigeria.

The Vice Chairman disclosed that the name Nasiru Illimi Kombo Branch was adopted because there is an existing society in Banjul that has prominent Nigerian members like Imam Abdul Rasag, Alfa Shakini, Mr. Ibrahim Morkinvo and others.

According to Mr. Bro Musibau Raim, this was also on for a while and it was subsequently agreed that there was a need for an independent Islamic organisation for the people of Kombo and its environs. He said the new Islamic group was therefor born and became known as the Islamic Forum.

He added that Alhagie Abdul Hakeem Abdul Salam emerged as the one who led the forum to achieve success in a number of areas. Pa Baboucarr Mboob, Commissioner of Administration Gambia Immigration Department, was representing the Secretary of State for Interior. He said that Asbunallahi Islamic Forum has invited people to strive in the cause of Allah.

He said the topic is all embracing because its scope covers all facets of Islam. The topic is not limited to the Quoranic injunctions alone it also touches on the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH).
