Gambia Scorpions assistant coach, Peter Bonu Johnson, has resigned from his post, Observer Sports has reliably gathered.

The former Under 20 coach’s resignation came barely less than 24 hours after the official unveiling of Belgian Paul Put as Scorpions head coach, on Tuesday. Bonu Johnson was recently appointed as Scorpions caretaker coach pending the acquisition of a foreign coach, and with the coming of Paul Put, he was to serve as an assistant.

In a one-page resignation letter addressed to the president of The Gambia Football Association, the former national defender cited numerous reasons that led to his resignation, one of which is the appointment of a new Under 20 coach without his knowledge.

“I wish to re-iterate the following; In August 2005, I was humiliated by being unceremoniously removed from the U - 17National Team without any genuine reason;

The terms and conditions on my appointment letter as National U-20 coach have not been respected. Again I was humiliated on arrival from Mauritania on 16th April 2008 at the dinner in honour of the U-20 National team at the Jama Hall, Kairaba Hotel, when MG Lang Tombong Tamba, on your behalf, announced the appointment of two Italian coaches for the National U-20 whilst I was not formally or informally being informed,” Bonu revealed in his resignation letter.

“That since my appointment in 2004, recommendations (that is based on problems we have encountered during preparations and competition stages) on all technical reports I have submitted have neither been looked into, nor tackled.”

“I am again disappointed that efforts have been made to again solve another foreign coach’s problem(s), whilst I am owed two months salary and other expenses. I have sacrificed and exercised a lot of patience over the years but unfortunately I have always not been properly treated.”

“In the light of the above and with a heavy heart I hereby tender my resignation as National U-20 now promoted/appointed to the Senior National team as assistant coach with immediate effect.”

When contacted, Seedy Kinteh, president of The Gambia Football Association, confirmed the receipt of Bonu Johnson’s resignation letter.

“We have accepted his resignation in good fate, and accordingly we have named a replacement,” Kinteh told Observer Sports yesterday.
