Djappoleen Foundation Donates to NYSS

The Djappoleen Foundation, a Dutch charity in The Gambia, donated welding materials to the National Youth Services Scheme (NYSS) on Wednesday.

The items, which include a generator, a metal drill, a grinder and a welding projector, were presented to NYSS at a ceremony held at the scheme’s orientation camp in Bakau.

Speaking at the occasion Mr. Lamin Conteh, a representative of the foundation in The Gambia, said that the foundation started operating in The Gambia in 1998.Since then he said they have supplied computers and medical items to more than 30 schools and health centeres.He also revealed that in addition to that, they have donated a four-wheel drive ambulance to the Campama Psychiatric Hospital in Banjul.He pledged that they will do more for NYSS as well.

For his part, Frans Nagel, the chairman of the foundation, told the audience that NYSS is a small foundation but have fortunately it has been able to assist many institutions in the country.He encouraged the students to take good care of the materials, to work hard and to make the best of any opportunity that comes their way in life.“As young Gambians you will have to work hard to develop this country.”

According to him, the materials are worth over †3,500.

Upon receiving the materials, Musa Mbye, the executive director of NYSS, thanked the donors for the gesture.He also hailed Mr. Conteh for his patriotism.

Mr. Mbye said that NYSS doesn’t only stop at training youths but also help creates employment for them to become self reliant in the future.He went on to assure the donors that the materials will be put to good use.
