In response to the Sunday 1st June storm disaster that hit the Villages of Dasilami and Jiramban in foni Kansala District, Western Region, Sallah Djellou, a swedish philantropist on Wednesday made a donation of second hand materials including clothes to the victims of the natural disaster.
The catastrophe has caused a wave of panic in the two villages along with destruction of properties. A dramatic situation that rendered over hundred and ninety-five people from thirteen families homeless.
In presenting the materials to the Western Region disaster management committee, the donor expressed deep sorrow for the victims. He then humbly outlined that his contribution cannot replace the damages made to the victims but to console them.
In receiving the materials, Sereign Modou Joof, secretary general of the Western Region Disaster Management Committee, who also doubles as the PRO of Brikama Area Council, underscored the long time relationship that has been established between his office and the donor. Secretary general Joof then challenged all Gambians to follow the footsteps of the donor. He seized the opportunity to thank the donor for what he described as a noble gesture.
