Bakoteh Upper Basic School Elects Head boy and Head girl

Bakoteh Upper Basic School in Region One recently held its annual election for the positions of head boy and head girl for the year 2008/2009. The two most senior positions were taken by Sheriff Sanyang and Isatou Jobarteh.

The election chairman Mr. Alfusainey Sanyang, who is a teacher at the school, said the administration of the school provided ballot drums, tokens and other necessary equipment. Mr. Sanyang said the election results were a clear manifestation of the trust and confidence the students had in the candidates of which there were eight in total. He expressed the hope that the newly elected head boy and girl would work with their councilors and the administration to ensure that students adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the school.

Speaking to The Point,the new head girl Isatou Jobarteh called on all students to forget their differences and work together as a team for the common good of the school and thanked Allah for choosing her to lead. The new headboy Sheriff Sanyang challenged students to take up the challenges in building up their school, knowing the purpose they are in school and maintaining discipline.

The right to vote in the election was extended to over 900 students. The newly elected head boy and girl will be assisted by 15 new councillors in morning and afternoon shifts.
