Stop the xenophobic attacks

Editor,

Please allow me space in your reputable newspaper to add my voice on the ongoing anti-immigration attacks that recently broke out in South Africa.

These xenophobic attacks have already claimed enough lives and damaged a lot of property belonging to African immigrants mainly. What is happening in South Africa is uncalled for and disheartening.

The situation is a sad one. An African on an African soil can no longer seek refuge in another country, not to talk of enjoying peace.

The only crime these migrants committed is to work hard, contribution to the well-being of South Africans and the development of their country.

Fellow Africans, to me, this should not have happened especially from our own brothers and sisters residing in South Africa, whom we selflessly stood by in their liberation struggle againt the ruthless Aparthied regime which was backed by the West.

The government of South Africa should act fast and stop the killers in South Africa from this madness. What was even more shocking is that while the killings were taking place, President Thabo Mbeki decided to leave his unstable country for a so-called Japan-Africa Summit. It looked as if the brutal uprising against the immigrants in South Africa is not his priority.

And the ANCleadership, inclding Zuma have not done enough. They are a disgrace to Africans and have betrayed the very principle on which ANC was formed. What shame on you! Stop the killings now, enough is enough.
