Journalist Lamin Fatty’s Application Granted

The Banjul High Court on Thursday granted the application made by Journalist Lamin Fatty, a former reporter with the shut down The Independent newspaper, who was convicted on charges of false publication and broadcasting last year. Mr. Fatty made an application to seek leave to file additional grounds of appeal. The application was filed on behalf of the appellant by his counsel, Lamin Camara, seeking leave to file additional grounds of appeal.

In her ruling the presiding Judge, Justice Naceesay Salla-Wadda, stated that the ruling was in respect of the motion filed by the appellant seeking leave to file an additional grounds of appeal. She stated that the motion was supported by an affidavit, which was attached to the motion paper.

She indicated that after hearing the argument by the appellant’s counsel, the court has decided to grant the application.

The case was thereafter adjourned to 14thOctober for the adoption of briefs.
