Taiwanese Ambassador Visits The Point

The Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan, His Excellency Richard Shih, yesterday paid a courtesy call on the Managing Director of The Point Newspaper, Mr. Pap Saine, at his Garba Jahumpa Road office.

In a brief meeting with the Taiwanese diplomat, Mr. Saine extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Shih to one of the country’s leading private media.

Speaking to this reporter shortly after the meeting, The Point boss expressed his pleasure with the visit. He said that he had assured ambassador Shih of The Point’s continued support to the embassy.

For his part, Ambassador Shih said, “ I’m happy and honoured to be appointed as the new Taiwanese Ambassador to The Gambia. I arrived here a month ago. After I gradually settled down, so I actually like to pay a courtesy call to our Embassy’s friends in the media just to officially introduce myself to The Point. It’s my commitment to continue the good relations between the government of Taiwan and The Gambia.”

The Taiwanese mission head also said: “During my tour of duty, my colleagues and myself will surely do our best to make the relationship between our two countries and two peoples to grow from strength to strength,” he assured.

Ambassador Shih, himself a veteran journalist, emphasised the Embassy’s readiness to maintain their good relationship with the media.

Ambassador Shih was accompanied to The Point by Mr. Vincent C.H. Wang of the Taiwanese Embassy and the meeting was graced by Mr. Ebrima Sawaneh, News Editor of The Point.
