Dutch volunteers end visit to Bokaloho Skills Centre

Cersy Engelen, otherwise known as Isatou Camara, Nicolle Minten and Lenneke de Ruyter, all volunteers from Holland recently concluded a four-week long visit to Bokaloho Skills and Multi Training Centre at Abuko. During their stay in The Gambia the group of volunteers trained the students on sewing techniques.

Speaking to the Top Class columnist, Ms Lenneke de Ruyter, said that the purpose of their visit is to train  the students on sewing techniques. She said that they taught them how to sew skirts and bags and they have done very well.

According to her, she was very impressive by the outcome of the training session, according to Ms Lenneke de Ruyter, she later bought all the bags at  D250 each. The bags, she revealed, will be sold in Holland.

He advised the students to live up to expectations, as they have to practise regularly in order to sharpen their skills.

For his part, Saihou Darboe, head of the sewing department, expressed delight about the positive respond of the training.

He concluded by thanking the Dutch volunteers for their wonderful gesture and expressed hope that they would continue coming to the school.

In a similar vein, Mr Saliue Puye, principal of the school, also thanked the volunteers for their initiative.
