Gender bias in court sentences

Editor,

I am deeply disappointed to read that the lady alleged to have committed infanticide at Fajikunda was sentenced to two years. I am of the believe that infanticide, if not accidental, is as good as murder; and murder, if the legal texts books are followed to the letter, should carry the maximum sentence.

My worry is people were charged for rape, which, though serious, can in no way possible be equated to murder, and these people were sentenced for more than two years.

What is happening in the law courts should not be accepted, because I think we are all equal before the law regardless of gender. Defaulters should be sent to jail accordingly without prejudice. Finally, I want to seize this opportunity to thank the security forces for jealously guarding and maintaining the peace that this nation, through Allah, has been enjoying.
