The curtain will soon come down on the 2008 GFA  Division One league. It will remain only one more match after this weekend’s matches and for the first time in years the title race will be decided on the final day.  Can Wallidan beat Samger and Hawks  and seal their first title since 2006 or will they let Samger in at the last minute?

Matters at the bottom are also very much ‘up in the air’ with Interior, Ports Authority, Bakau United and even Sea View all desperate to claim the two survival spots in this year’s top tier.

Bakau United currently have it in their own hands, requiring a win against fellow strugglers Interior and  Sait Matty-Africell who have nothing to fight for.

Biko   v   Hawks

One of the league contenders Hawks will face Steve Biko at the Independence Stadium. Steve Biko have nothing to play for, but Hawks cannot afford to lose this match, if they are to remain in the title race. They currently trail Wallidan and Samger by two points and only a win will keep alive their dream of clinching the title they last won in 1996.

Real v  Sea View  

The league champions, Real de Banjul, are now only playing for pride having missed out on title race. But Sea View cannot rest on their laurels because their Tuesday’s  3-1 shock defeat to Sait Matty-Africell means that the Hotel club still need one more point to move safely away form the red zone.

S/Matty v Gamtel

Both sides have nothing to play for, but both coaches - Alagie Sillah and Pa Suwareh Faye will be keen to cap a good ending to the season in order to impress their employers.  Anything can happen in the match of which the least I expect is draw.

Wallidan v Samger

This match, to be played at the Serrekunda West Mini-stadium, is no doubt the tie of the weekend. Though the outcome of the game will still not decide the destiny of the title, Wallidan will, however, need only a draw in their final match against Hawks to seal the title, if they beat Samger. The two sides meeting in the first round ended in stalemate, but I foresee a different score line on Sunday.

Bakau Utd v Interior

The bottom teams in the league will square off at Independence Stadium on Sunday with relegation for both teams looming. Interior's position in last has been a foregone conclusion for some time. However, Bakau United have their fate lying in their own hands. If they can beat Interior, a win for them in the final match against Sait Matty will guarantee  safety.
