The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC), has ordered both the print and electronic media outlets in the country to stop all programmes propagating the Shi’ate doctrine in the country.
This directive was contained in a dispatch transmitted to the Daily Observer by the Department of State for Local Government, Lands and Religious Affairs. The directive came in the wake of growing concerns about the apparent differences in the Islamic faith in the country.

The Gambia Supreme Islamic Council (GSIC) decided to order all print and electronic media houses through your able office to stop all programmes advocating and defending the Shi’ate beliefs in The Gambia, with immediate effect, in accordance with its mandate as the principal advisor of government on matters of Islam and the umbrella of the Islamic Institutions in The Gambia.
