The eyes have it - goal, goal, goal! Gambia’s golden generation of Scorpions

Editor,

What a sensational and earth shattering demolition of Liberia`s Lone Stars in the ongoing 2010 double qualifiers. Say it loud and proudly, The Gambia is in the box seat down the road and steadily progressing towards the finals proper, in South Africa/Angola.

I am deeply overwhelmed by the Scorpions breathtaking display, monitored over neighbourhood - 2S TV, [via satellite], far but near home. I am over the moon for them.
That astonishing result was one of the finest hour for many past home games.  But am not surprised.

These experienced talents have the pedigree and abilities to take the qualifiers by storm and shame doom sayers who are still dreaming that The Gambia and Liberia are outsiders incapable of making it to the competition proper.

We have worked tirelessly in youth football development, setting tremendous standards over the years, which have long gone unnoticed in the international spectrum. And now is the time to prove skeptics wrong. Based on the incredible victory over The Lone Stars, it is clear that without any complacency or "MASLA HA" - although we have to respect our challengers - we can win against any team.

The games ahead are about defending well collectively and closing spaces as much as goals. The Coach and his Management Team are applauded as they deserve the credit for the way they set out the whole team structure within a short span of time.

Watching the boys in their national attire kicking the leather ball around the green pitch with style, skill and courage, and being rewarded with those 3 much needed goals, can make one’s hairs stand with the joy of nationalism.

The feel good factor is back! Although this has injected some hope, Senegal must be taken seriously as they are very strong at home.  Needless to say, had we snatched 3 points from Senegal at home, we would by now have been in a good mood and would have had better reasons to celebrate before our  crucial away game. But they are far more under pressure as the Scorpions are no longer regarded as "Soft Touches" but as a growing force capable of writing them off.
The Eyes Have It: "You are our Golden Generation of Scorpions." Survive and play good football. Let us pray.
