150 Orphans End Religious Course at Ummul Qura Foundation

The second edition of the Religious Islamic Studies and Scientific Research course, organised by UMMUL QURA Foundation and sponsored by the Orphans Committee of Sheikh Eid Bin Muhammad – AL – Thani charitable Association base in the Gulf State of QATAR, yesterday concluded a month-long course for 150 Orphans in the foundation office in Latri Kunda Sabiji.

Deputising for the Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare at the occasion, Isatou Jammeh commended UMMUL QURA foundation for successfully running the training course smoothly noting that the knowledge gained will greatly impact on the lives of the participants.

She said it is traditional in Africa that orphans normally stay with the extended families but now people are changing, adding that all the orphans need is proper care and support.

She stated that orphans should not be exposed to begging in the streets and that the Children’s Act is here to protect children.

Sheikh Tijan Jonga, course director, said during the course the students were exposed to various religious teachings and several conferences were organised on various topics and renowned Islamic scholars delivered lectures.

Mr. Jonga also used the occasion to, on behalf of the beneficiaries, to thank the sponsors in Quatar for the assistance they have been rendering to UMMUL QURA foundation over the years.

Alieu Mustapha Cham, president of the foundation, pointed out that the course sponsored by Sheikh Eid Bin Muhammad AL Thani Charitable Organisation is been run in 16 African Countries, Asia and Europe and within the 27 Islamic Organisations 3,700 orphans benefited from the course.

Mr. Cham said in The Gambia UMMUL QURA foundation is taking care of 205 orphans and this is through the support they received from donors

The occasion was graced by the Imam Ratib of Banjul and other religious leaders.
