Gambia international Cherno Samba said the Scorpions can beat the Terenga Lions when the two sides meet on October 11, in the final match of the first round qualifying of the 2010 combined World Cup and Nations Cup qualifiers.
The Gambia need to avoid a defeat against arch rivals Senegals to stand any chance of making it to the final phase of the qualifiers, and the ex-Plymouth Argyle striker who now plies his trade with the Finnish giants, FC Haka, believes the Scorpions can tame the Lions.
“I personally believe that we will beat Senegal and to score against them will be the happiest moment of my life after the birth of my daughter” Samba, who made his Gambia debut in the Scorpions 3-0 thumping of Liberia in Banjul last month told gambiasports.gm.
After a winning debut with the Scorpions, Samba is so in love with the Gambian team that he’s ready to skip a club fixture in order to travel early to Banjul to prepare for the Dakar trip.
“I want to arrive in Banjul on the 4th of October meaning I have to miss our game in the Finnish league on the 5th of October if Haka will grant me permission to travel.
“This is a very crucial [league] game for us but even more so is our game against Senegal in Dakar on October the 11th,” he told Peter Gomez’s Gambia Sports Online.
Samba suffered a knock on his knee that kept him out of his team FC Haka’s match at the weekend but the injury is now healing according him.
“I was struggling with a knock on my knee that I sustained during training but am getting better now, I started training and am expecting to be back in action ahead of our game at the weekend” Samba told gambiasports.gm.
