4 Karate Combatants Leave Today For Dakar

According to information gathered from the Gambia Shotokan-Karate-Do International Association (SKI-Gambia), a team of 4 Karate combatants will leave Banjul today 18th June 2009, for Dakar to attend the 3rd Edition of Master Zapata 2009 Karate Championship.

This is the third time the Gambia is honouring the memorial invitation from the President of the Pikin Karate League, Master Njie Jobe.

Four combatants: Ebrima M. Sanneh (Team Captain), Pateh Jobe, Morr Ceesay and Mohammed Drammeh will be headed  by  the Coach and Technical Director of the SKI Gambia Master, Mohammed Danso. The competition proper is set for 20th June 2009. The team is expected to spend four days in Dakar before returning back from the competition.

The Championship aims at bringing together all the Masters trained by the late Alien Badara Samb (Master Zapata), who passed away in 2007.

Master Zapata as he was called was among the founding fathers of the SKI discipline in Senegal and is a renowned karate player, both in Senegal and the outside  the world.

The trip was made possible through the sponsorship of the President of the Gambia Shotokan Karate-Do International Association, Master Mohammed Kaba Musa.
