60 extension workers capacitated on ward planning in CRR

Monday, March 2, 2009
Over sixty extension workers last Friday began a two-day capacity building on field guide for villages and ward planning in Janjangbureh, Central River Region.

The field guide for villages and ward planning in The Gambia is part of the Project Implementation Manual (PIM) for Community Driven Development Project (CDDP). Addressing the participants at the start of the training, Kajally Kanyi, the community development facilitator said that the emphasis in the Project Implementation Mannual is on the general procedures, while the field guide focuses on the methodology and the tools to be used.

He noted that the field guide has been developed for CDDP, but is based on existing experiences in The Gambia with integrated participatory planning at community level. He then confirmed that the perspective behind the five-year timeframe of the CDDP is for the project to contribute to institutionalisation of the Community Driven Development  at the local government area level.

This is done through the validation of the methodology and  develop capacity for its use described in a final “field guide for village and ward Planning” including toolboxes for village Planning, for Village evaluation, for ward planning, and for ward evaluation.
