Africell, a GSM company country, has revealed that its sponsorship deal with the GFA first division side, Sait Matty FC, remains intact.
The institution’s official responsible for sports, Omar Danso, has told Observer Sports that the partnership between the two parties is now even stronger. Rumours suggesting the collapse of the deal were rife in town in the past weeks, with some sources informing Observer Sports that the club’s failure to land any silverware in the past five years had compelled the sponsor to demand an explanation from the club management.
It was also rumoured that the telecommunications institution was looking for other options, which included taking full ownership of the team, after their failure to make headway. Sait Matty’s secretary general, Momodou Demba, earlier refuted the claim that the partnership was on the brink of collapse, though he later admitted that the open deal may cease to exist in the future.
Demba went ahead to state that some clubs even want to the see the deal collapse in the hope that they will benefit from a similar package. However, any suggestion that the two parties are about to walk out on each other has been vehemently brushed aside by the Africell official.“As far as I am concerned, the partnership between Africell and Sait Matty remains intact. There was no problem between the two and Africell remains the official sponsor of the team,” Omar Danso said.
He added that the request for a report on the team’s performances is not something new, adding “it is mandatory for the club management to give a report at the end of every league season.”
