Alleged Fraudster in Court

One Demba Jatta was recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh for allegedly obtaining money by false pretences. He denies the charge.

According to the charge sheet, the accused, Demba Jatta, sometime on 14th January 2009 received the sum of D70,000 from one Bintou Dukureh-Njie on the pretext of selling her a plot of land.

Meanwhile he was granted court bail in the sum of D70,000, and the case was adjourned until 24th February 2009.

In a separate development, one Ebrima Ndong, a commercial driver, was also recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh charged with careless driving.

According to the particulars of the offence, on 14th February 2009, along Trans-Gambia High-Way, the accused Ebrima Ndong drove a commercial motor vehicle without due care and attention and thereby caused an accident.

Following his plea of “guilty” to the offence, he was convicted and sentenced to a fine of D2,500 in default to serve one- year imprisonment.
