An artistic exhibition in honour of Black History Month was recently celebrated at Creola Bar and Restaurant located at Atlantic Boulevard Road, Bakau Newtown. The aim of the programme was to celebrate black history, black achievement and global unification.
The event was witnessed by the United States Ambassador to The Gambia, Barry L Wells, and was punctuated with spectacular performances by various artists who gave speeches and poems.
According to information reaching Entertainment, one of those who spoke during the programme, Dionne Sims, was one of the organisers. She said they organised it for their children and grandchildren to be proud of them. “Our roots are here, we want to start here in The Gambia. We are proud of being an African,” she said.
“No one ever thought that we would have a black president in White House but today Barack Obama is the president. We should not forget the struggle made by our ancestors,” she said. The Black American lady expressed optimism regarding the long-term dream of African unity.
