Paul Ryder, a British philanthropist, recently donated stationery and sports materials valued at over D30, 000 to Bijilo Lower Basic School at a presentation ceremony held at the school ground in Bijilo.
The donation items included exercise books, pens, pencils, calculators, erasers, football jerseys and balls. Presenting the items, Paul Ryder said his move was motivated by his admiration of President Jammeh’s commitment in nation building and also his focus on young people. He noted that The Gambian leader is a source of inspiration for him. According to him, this is the main reason that prompted him to live in The Gambia. He pointed out the conducive environment and the friendliness of Gambians.
Mr Ryder further thanked his partner, Janny Luwis whom he said, has also contributed to the donation. Receiving the items on behalf of the school, Isatou Joof, deputy headteacher of Bijilo Lower Basic School thanked the donors for the laudable gesture, saying that it came at the right time, when the school is in need. She assured the donors that the donation will be put into good use.
