Blacksmith Convicted For Stealing Empty BarrelMonday, October 05, 2009
One Wuri Sambou, a Guinean Conakry national was recently convicted and sentenced by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Emmanuel Azunda Amadi, to a fine of D4, 000 in default to serve two years, six months in prison for stealing an empty barrel. Wuri Sambou, a blacksmith by profession, was convicted following his own plea of guilt. According the facts of the case as narrated by the prosecutor, 1st Class 2294 Jammeh, it happened on 17th September 2009 at Brikama Market. He said while a market security officer was on a patrol inside the market, he eventually saw the convict accompanied by a friend carrying the empty barrel. He added that the convict was confronted and during the confrontation, the friend of the convict stabbed the security officer before both ran away. He further narrated that, the security officer then called for help and his colleagues later apprehended the convict and took him to Brikama Police Station were he was cautioned and charged with offence committed.
