Bundung Red Cross newsletter launched

The Bundung Red Cross  branch of The Gambia Red Cross Society,  on Saturday 21st February 2009 launched a Newsletter at a ceremony held at its office in Bundung.

The occasion also coincided with their 12th annual external evaluation and inauguration of a new  executive. Delivering his welcoming remarks, Njogon Jeng, the outgoing link leader, spoke on the historical background of the society. According to him, the Bundung home link was founded in 1996 but was later transformed to KM Red Cross branch in Bundung as a commercial link in January 1996.  He added that the link now registered a membership of two hundred and fifty (250).

Mr Jeng added that the Bundung Red Cross link, had embarked on so many voluntary activities such as disaster preparedness response and management, alleviating human suffering. Voluntary counselling on Hiv/Aids and first aid training among others. Ensa Khan, National Disaster coordinator and guest speaker of the occasion highlighted the significance of The Gambia Red Cross Society. He maintained that so many lives have been saved by The Gambia Red Cross Society.

Bundung Red Cross link he added is working directly with the national disaster management in all aspects. Mr Khan emphasised that the organisation has rendered so many assistance to the government such as helping flood victims and some refugees. For his part, Baboucarr Cham, adviser Bundung home Red Cross link, described the work of Red Cross as noble and dynamic, noting that they are ready to face all challenges in life.  

He implored on them to summon new sense of commitment and responsibility, this he said are tools to meet the new era. Cham finally pledged to render more assistant to the link. The Newsletter was launched by Modou Touray KM branch officer. Certificates were awarded to the deserving volunteers.
