When Burama, a young shepherd boy from Kwinella in Kiang, has a dream that reveals the location of a hidden treasure buried under the sand beach at Denton Bridge, his simple life is suddenly torn in to two.
Part of him wants to take the chance to go searching for it and the other part of him wants to continue his life as a shepherd. A mysterious king named the king of Tambajenung convinces burama that he has succeeded in discovering his personal legend. The old king tells burama that following his personal legend to its conclusion is a person’s only real obligation in life.
Burama listens to his heart and decides to go on a dangerous search for the treasure. He sells his flock of sheep and heads to the Denton Bridge where he is quickly robbed of his gold at Brikama Darsilameh and left despondent on the streets. He decides that he was foolish to believe in his dreams and quickly gets a job with a Mauritanian merchant in order to save up enough money to go back home. After almost a year working for the merchant, Burama has made a success of the shop and has plenty of money to do whatever he wants. As he walks down the streets going back home, he suddenly decides to take a chance and continue his search for the buried treasure.
He goes to Brikama car park and boards Jelejele to the Denton Bridge and as the vehicle drives by, he begins to construe what the soul of the world is and how he fits in. When the Jelejele reaches Abuko, Burama meets a girl he falls in love with the moment he sets his eyes on. The girl’s name is korika .The local fortune teller, a mysterious man who reminds Burama of the old king, helps Burama get inspired. Burama continues his journey and continue to learn more important life-lessons along the journey.
Burama does not know if he is becoming wise and a master in the art of living. Although he has left his true love back at Abuko, he is resolved to follow his dream to its end. After many adventures, dangers and important life-lessons, Burama finally reaches Denton Bridge. He begins to dig deep into the beach sand looking for the buried treasure but before he gets far, a pack of thieves show up beating and robbing him. They forced him to continue digging and they leave when no treasure is found .One of the thieves as destiny would have it, tells Burama an important clue and when they are gone Burama can’t help but laugh, because now he knows where his treasure truly lies.
It ends up being at under a very big silk cotton tree fondly called in kwinella Jalibantan where he had the prophetic dream years before. He digs and finds a beautiful chest full of gold and gems. His next and last joining will be back to Abuko to be reunited with the woman he loves. ‘The Burama’ is a very interesting story about chasing your dreams; it is a story for those who have big dreams and high ambitions and also for those who are afraid of dreams. It is the story of a shepherd who gets a recurring dream about a treasure near Denton Bridge and sets out to find it. We all have high ambitions but how many of us actually set our heart to making it reality if truth be told very few. Fear of failure and anxiety about the result makes one ignore his dreams.
This story talks about how one should follow one’s destiny with an unfettering attitude. Yes it is going to have some unimaginable difficulties strewn all over but the idea is not to loose one’s hope in the fall of adversities. A willing heart and determined mind is what brings success. This story says that if one follows one’s heart and strive to make their dreams come true, then the whole universe will conspire to make it happen.
Human being is a slave of habit. Thinking about a problem from different view points brings a whole gamut of solutions giving the problem an entirely new dimension. To put it in another way, every problem is opportunity in disguise; when one fails with such an opportunity they should capitalize on it and hence make the most of it. This is another thought that is endorsed by the story.
The gist of the story is this: a shepherd, Burama sets out to make his dream a reality. He faces many difficulties on the way loses all his money and is forced to work in a shop and because of his fresh new ideas, the shop a gains a new look and the shop keeper a new life. He then goes on his journey where he meets a fortune teller who leads him to the Denton Bridge. The story takes us through the difficulties during the course of the journey and how he overcomes them all by listening to his heart and to the language of the world thus making the story interesting to read.
The story is written in 120 pages book. I wish to launch it when His Excellency Professor Yahya Jammeh visits TAIWAN or probably when I come for holidays.
