Canaan Institute students visit Observer

At least over 25 students and two teachers from the Canaan Technical Institute in Brikama, recently paid a day’s visit to the Observer Company  in Bakau.

The group were received upon arrival by Assan Sallah, an editor at the Daily Observer newspaper, who is also the Young Observer columnist. Mr Sallah took the visiting group on a conducted tour of the Observer offices. The team visited the Observer Editorial room; the Photography room; News room; Lithography, Marketing; Production and the Printing departments.

Speaking to the Young Observer columnist at the end of their visit, Hamilton Hammer, course coordinator at Canaan Technical Institute, said their mission to the Observer offices was to expose the students to the world of newspapers and how they are published in The Gambia.

He added that the students learnt a lot of new things during the visit. For her part, Mrs Lamin, another teacher at Canaan Technical Institute, expressed hope that their students will have the opportunity be placed on attachment at the Observer Company, after completing their courses.

She thanked the management of the Observer Company for giving them the opportunity to visit the offices. Mary Jatta and Kemo Kolley, headgirl and headboy of Canaan Techincal Institute respectively, both expressed delight at visiting the Daily Observer.
