Friday, July 24, 2009

The Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Fred Foster recently discharged one Aminata Bah, who is a co-wife to the complainant.

According to the facts as narrated by the police prosecutor, Sgt. Abdoulie Jammeh, the complainant and the accused share the same husband. He said on 11th July 2009, the children of the parties fought and the complainant beat the accused’s children while separating them. He added that the accused became angry and as a result fought with the complainant. During the fight the accused bit the complainant on her arm. He adduced further that the matter was later reported to Wellingara Police Station, adding that the complainant was taken to the health centre for medical treatment and a medical certificate was accordingly issued.

In her mitigation, the accused begged the court to temper justice with mercy as it would not happen again.

Magistrate Fred Foster later discharged the accused and advised her to maintain the peace for a period of six months.
