This paper has learnt that a house belonging to one Foday Jawneh of Wuli Barrow Kunda in the Upper River Region, was destroyed by a blazing fire last Friday.

According to our sources, the fire was caused by flames from a lit candle. At least one bedroom and two stores were said to have been destroyed.
Foday Jawneh was reported to have gone to the mosque for Fajr (early morning) prayers, and upon his return home, saw was a crowd of people struggling to put out the fire that had engulfed his house.

The old man is reported to have remarked: “I accept it in good faith as the decision of God, and I wish to thank the villagers for coming to our rescue quickly which has paid dividend; otherwise the fire would have transferred to other houses in the compound, which could have been more catastrophic.”

At the time of the incident, sources say, a 7-year old boy was sleeping in the house. However, they added, he was safely rescued. Eyewitnesses who also spoke to this reporter said that the extent of the damage was very serious and described the occurrence as “sorrowful.”
