The alkalo of Bakau, Luntanding Jaiteh, has appealed to the people of Bakau and the communities around the Star of the Sea Church, Methodist Church and St Paul’s in Fajara to desist from creating disturbances in the area during worship periods.
Speaking to this reporter at the Daily Observer’s office in Bakau, Alkalo Jaiteh said there has been a longstanding relationship between Christians and Muslims in The Gambia. He said this was manifested recently by the visit of the Catholic Bishop of Banjul to the home of the Imam Ratib of Banjul.
The alkalo also warned drivers, who drive in the area - to avoid unnecessary horning near the churches concerned. He said the cordial relationship that exists between the two religions in the country should not be jeopardized.
He finally prayed for the entire Christian community in the country and the entire Gambian nation, wishing everyone a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.
