A two-day capacity building on Early Childhood Development (ECD) organised by the Mama Tamba Memorial Nursery School for teachers, last Sunday ended at the school’s premises in Illiassa, Upper Nuimi, North Bank Region.

Welcoming participants at the start of the occasion, Tamba Jammeh, the headmaster of Mama Tamba Nursery School said the objective of the training is to provide the opportunity for teachers in early childhood development to come together under one umbrella and exchange ideas in order to perform better in their classrooms for the benefit of their students.

Alkali Korita, the chairperson of the occasion and coordinator of the Early Childhood Development Programme School of Education, Gambia College, described the training session as very important. According to him, the government, through the Gambia College, is offering a three-year ECD programme tailored to provide teachers with all the skills required.

Momodou Marr, deputy governor of the North Bank Region, on behalf of the governor of the region, commended the school administration and the community of Illiassa for the move.

According to him, the training is in line with government’s policy to bring quality education to the doorsteps of every Gambian. He urged the participants to take the workshop seriously and share the knowledge gained. Deputy Governor Marr also called on the World Food Programme through the SAFMU project, to extend the school feeding programme to Mama Tamba Nursery School.

Other speakers included Alhagie Foday Sarr Jammeh, the chief of Upper Badibou; Sovanvara Chin, a VSO volunteer and Georgians Jarred Hasisi, who gave the vote of thanks. Certificates were awarded to the participants at the end of the training.
