Female thief convicted

The Kanifing Magistrates Court, presided over by Acting Principal magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay, yesterday convicted and sentenced one Binta Dambelly to two months imprisonment, after she was found guilty of stealing.

According to the particulars of the offence, the convict, on the 27th day of March 2009 at Pipeline stole D24,000 and US$200 from the dwelling house of one Abdou Ceesay. She had refuted the charge.

Delivering  her judgement, the principal magistrate told the court that the convict has betrayed the trust given to her by the complainant and also invaded his privacy. The principal magistrate therefore at that juncture ordered the convict to pay a compensation of D14,285 to the company, as well as US$200.
