I want to congratulate Hon. Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay, the speaker of the National Assembly for receiving yet another prestigious award- ‘Distinguished Achievement Award in Governance’ at the recent African Women Leadership Award 2009 held at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, Nigeria.
Recognising and honouring the work of such a remarkable and true Africa women leader, is indeed a move in the right direction. Speaker FJC definitely deserves the award and many others, for her excellent work and efforts towards the promotion of the welfare of women and governance. Her efforts for the empowement of women and governance cannot be paragraphed in black and white.
I want to attest to the fact that Speaker FJC’s extraordinary achievement as an individual, plus her outstanding contribution of governance and women welfare, have contributed immensely to the betterment of society. What is more appreciative is her vision and foresight in dedicating this award to His Excellency, Professor Dr. Alhaji Yahya A.J.J. Jammeh, President of the Republic of The Gambia. This has again manifested her loyalty, love and trust for the leadership of this great land. She has recognised President Jammeh’s support and the confidence he has in her by appointing her as No. 3 in the country.
To be honest, FJC has shown yet another feature of a true Muslim. She is someone who is not selfish but always recognises the efforts of someone who does good for her and every Gambian as manifested in her dedication of this award to the Gambian leader, whom she always calls the ‘Avocate de le femme’.
