Over twenty people involved in food handling, selected across the region of CRR, were, on Tuesday December 29, sensitised on food hygiene and safety.
The training session was held in Bansang in the Upper Fulladu District, CRR South. It was organised by the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare, in collaboration with the CRR Regional Health Management Team.
The principal public health officer, Sanna Jawara, spoke at length on the importance of the sensitisation, pointing out that it would go a long way in equipping the food handlers with the requisite knowledge in protecting food from contamination during preparation and before it reaches the consumers.
As public health officials, he said, they are always concerned about the individual’s personal hygiene and the environment in which food is prepared. The central river region regional health officer, Karamba F Keita, called on participants to take up the sensitisation program seriously and to ensure dissemination of the knowledge gained to those who did not have the chance to attend it.
The ultimate purpose of the sensitisation, he reiterated, is to ensure that all consumers access good and quality food to promote a healthy living condition.
