GALGA Urges Councils To Double UpTuesday, August 25, 2009 The Secretary-General of the Gambia Association of Local Government Authorities (GALGA), Mr. Mustapha Njie, has called on councils to work hard and redouble their efforts in improving the lives of people. He said though councils have registered so many successes, yet there is room for improvement. Speaking in an exclusive interview with the Point Newspaper recently, Mr. Njie also outlined the objectives of his association. According to him, GALGA was established on 7th October 2002, to promote good Local Government administration, and to serve as the mouthpiece of councils. He further revealed that the association also helps facilitate links between Local Governments in the For GALGA, he said, have built the capacities of Local Government authorities on the Local Government Act, noting that capacity-building is a priority for his association. GALGA Boss also said that they are working with the Rural Water Supply Sector in identifying villages for the provision of clean and safe-drinking water for the rural populace. According to him, some hundred villages were identified and approved by the Office of the President. He urged councils to put in more efforts so as to overcome the challenges confronting them.
