The Gambia Under 17 team started their build up to next month’s Africa Under 17 Nations Cup finals in Algeria with an empathic 2-0 win over fellow finalists Guinea on Saturday, at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.
Defender Lamin Samateh opened the score for coach Tarik Siagy tutored side in the 3rd minute before fellow defender Abdou Njie wrapped up the win with a far-post shot just three minutes to the final whistle.
The Guineans must have failed to find the back of the net throughout the regulation, but their improved performance in the second half has proved they are a side to be reckoned with.
And this was admitted by the Baby Scorpions’ Egyptian coach who said the weekend game against Guinea was a good one, adding that the visitors really gave a good account of themselves as a quality side.
The Egyptian said he would need as many warm-up matches as possible before the Algeria youth event, which is scheduled between March 19 to April 3.
