Gambia U-17 To Battle For Gold Today

Thursday, April 2, 2009

The Darling Scorpions of The Gambia will be faced with a tough battle today playing Algeria in the final of the 8th edition of the African U-17 championship.

The 2005 African champions who drowned Algeria 2-0 at group stages in their own front yard, will have to repeat that feat to maintain an unbeaten record in the championship.

The Baby Scorpions will make history today if they succeed in beating the North African side and without conceding a goal in the competition.

Algeria will be faced with the task of avoiding another defeat, and to have their first taste of the title on home soil.

Football pundits are of the view that The Gambia can make it and are looking forward for the country’s second title. The continental title was won by Nigeria in 2007.

The game will kick off at local time, in DAR EL BEDA.

Burkina Faso beat Malawi 2-0 to settle for bronze in the third place play off yesterday.
