Gambia Wrestling Association to Stage Independence Wrestling Championship

As The Gambia celebrates 44 years of nationhood on Wednesday, The Gambia Wrestling Association is planning to organize an Independence Wrestling Championship this weekend at the Serekunda West Mini Stadium.

In an interview with Pointsports yesterday, the president of The Gambia Wrestling Association, Matarr Jarju, said the wrestling proper will commence on Friday and it is open to all wrestlers who want to participate in the competition. He noted that the winner of the Friday bout will receive a bull while for the junior wrestlers the winner will get four bags of rice.

Mr. Jarju stated that the Saturday bout will include wrestlers from Senegal, Guinea Bissau and The Gambia noting that eight wrestlers and four officials will come from Senegal and from Guinea Bissau six wrestlers and two officials have been invited to participate in the weekend competition

He also disclosed that the winners of the Saturday competition will receive attractive prizes

He called on the general public to come in great numbers to watch, adding that gate fees for the competition will be announced today.
