Mr. Amadou Bah, the Village Development Committee (VDC) chairman of Wellingara in Kombo North District of Western Region who also double as the head of the community policy in Wellingara has revealed to The Point that Gamcel, one of the leading cellular companies in the country recently donated an amount of D20, 000 to his committee.

According to Mr. Bah, the amount of the money will be use to complete the construction of their village new police station. He said his committee wrote letters to Africell, Comium, Brikama Area Council, and Kanifing Municipal Council to name a few but that it was only Gamcel who came to their aid.

Mr Bah commended Gamcel for what he described as a quick response and generosity to their letter, noting that the company is the most outstanding GSM operator in the Gambia. He said lack of finance was one of their main problems for the completion of the station but thanks to Gamcel, work is now in progress as his committee has already bought some bags of cement for the continuation of the new police station.

The Wellingara VDC chairman thanked all those who contributed towards the construction of their new police station and said that the new station when completed will reduce crime rates in the area. He told the Point that the new police station does not belongs to his VDC but it is for the entire Western Region and the Gambia in general. He therefore called for the participation of all Gambians and non-Gambian alike in the construction of the new station.
