Golf Workshop Ends In Fajara Golf Club

The Gambia Golf Association last Sunday 27th September 2009 concluded one-day workshop at Fajara Golf Club, aimed at building on the objectives and successes of the defunct Gambia Golf Federation.

In his opening remarks, the President of Gambia Golf Association, Mr Ebrima Jawara, said the day marked another milestone in the history of the association which was established in July 2009, as according to him, his association will do all it takes to develop the amateur and professional Golfers in The Gambia.

He applauded National Sports Council and President Jammeh for rendering the services towards the advancement of golf in the country. He also used the occasion to thank Fajara Golf Club for given their place free of charge.

According to Mr. Ebrima Jawara, GGA is also doing its part in raising the needed fund to raise the standard of Gambia-based professional golfers and also to be considered as professionals members of the association, adding that the pros must meet certain criteria, including a grueling 36 hole players ability test.

Allen Collins revealed that Golf started in the early 90s and in 1904, when it was featured in Olympic game in 1900 in Paris.

Other speakers included the interim Chairman of the National Sports Council, Mr. Mustapha Alex Dacosta and the wife of the Alhagie Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, Njameh Jawara who all expressed similar sentiment.
