GRA Staff Member, Accomplice Charged

Omar Kujabi, a member of staff at The Gambia Revenue Authority (GRA) and his accomplice, Alhagie Darboe, were on Friday 27th March 2009 arraigned at the Banjul Magistrates’ Court before Principal Magistrate Edrissa Mbai.

The duo where charged with three counts of conspiracy to commit a felony, stealing by a person in public service and forgery. Both denied the charges.

Count 1, the particulars of the alleged offence revealed that the two accused persons Omar Kujabi and Alhagie Darboe on 20th February 2009, at Banjul and diverse places in The Gambia jointly conspired to commit a felony to wit stealing.

On Count 2, the alleged offence states that the accused Omar Kujabi on 20th February 2009 by virtue of his employment at the GRA stole two leaflets of income tax disks valued at D1000.

While on count 3, the particulars of the alleged offence indicated that the accused Alhagie Darboe on 20th February 2009, at Banjul and diverse places photocopied two income tax disks with intent to sell them.

Meanwhile they where granted court bail in the sum of D50, 000 each with two Gambian sureties who must prove means. The case was adjourned until 9th March 2009.
