Grandson Bound to Keep Peace

Friday, August 21, 2009

One Sulayman Jallow of Nemakunku village, was recently convicted and sentenced for criminal trespass by the Brikama Magistrates’ Court presided over by Magistrate Mahoney to keep the peace for a period of one year.

Narrating the facts of the case, the police prosecutor Sgt 553 Abdoulie Jammeh told the court that it happened on 23rd July 2009 at Nemakunku. He said the complainant, Mamajang, said the accused was having an affair with his wife and that is why he stopped him from entering his compound.

He added that on the same day, 23rd July, the complainant’s grandfather met the accused in his compound and took him to the Wellingara Police Station where the accused was cautioned and charged with the offences committed.

In delivering his judgement, Magistrate Mahoney told the court that looking at the circumstances it did not seem that the offence was a serious offence.

He said the accused was also a grandson to the complainant and therefore the court ordered for him to stop entering the complainant’s compound for a period of one year, and that if that order was violated, serious punishment would be handed down.
