Wednesday, August 26, 2009
The community of Gunjur last Friday benefited from bags of rice, sugar and some clothing donated by President Jammeh as part of his annual Ramadan gift.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the Deputy Imam of Gunjur Central Mosque, who also doubles as the President of Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, Imam Alhagie Muhammed Lamin Touray, said the President has been reaching out to needy in other parts of the country, and that this time around the donation of the items is meant for the residents of Gunjur.
According to him, it is part of the President’s annual gesture in helping the poor, the weak and the needy as enshrined in the Holy Quran.
He called on the people to pray for the President to succeed in all his endeavours, especially towards national development.
In the view of many beneficiaries, the donation was timely and welcoming as Muslims around the world entered the Holy month of Ramadan, when sugar and rice are highly demanded.
They wished the President good health, happiness and success, both in this world and hereafter.
The sharing of the gifts was followed by the recitation of the Holy Quran for both the President and the nation.
