Halifa Sallah appeared in court on Wednesday on charges of plotting against the government and spying, and was immediately returned to jail as he could not post the D1million bail he was given.
Halifa Sallah, 56, is leader of the main opposition National Alliance for Democracy and Development (NADD). When the case came up for hearing, Magistrate Olagbutu Kayode of the Brikama Magistrates court told the main accused person that he had been charged with spying, illegal assembly and intended sedition.
Subsequently, Halifa Sallah, who was arrested on Monday, was immediately remanded in custody. The case will resume on Wednesday 25th March, 2009.
