Hen Thief Jailed

One Lamin Dumbuya a resident of Brufut was recently arraigned at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh charged with stealing contrary to section 252 of the criminal code cap 10 vol III laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence, the accused Lamin Dumbuya on 12th February 2009 at Brufut village, stole ten hens valued at D1,000 (one thousand dalasis) being the property of Ramatoulie Touray.

When the charge sheet was read to him in the language he claimed to understand, he pleaded guilty to the charge.

According to the facts as narrated by police prosecutor, it happened on 12th February 2009 at Brufut village. He said the accused stole 10 hens from Ramatoulie Touray and took them to Serrekunda market to sell when he was caught by the KMC police who suspected them to have been stolen hens. He said he was taken to the Serrekunda Police Station where he was interrogated.

Following his own admission to the charge, he was sentenced to three weeks imprisonment.
